In English Premier League, the term top 6 has a significant meaning. These 6 sides are Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspurs, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.
These teams consist of high prolific players who can change the face of your whole fantasy team with their extraordinary ability to bring points out of nothing. Keep in mind these players are not only handy, but they can cost you a fortune. With great power comes a beefy price. Here is our first part of goalkeepers and defenders that can be considered from the top 6 teams. Here form and fixture have been taken into account.
Goalkeeper
David De Gea (Manchester United) - £5.5m
The Manchester United man in front of the bars is an easy pick for the first 5 gameweeks. They'll be playing against Swansea, Leicester, Everton, Stoke and West Ham. A solid defensive line comprised of Baily, Lindelof Valencia makes Manchester United defense a hard nut to crack. Plus Mou's defensive tactics are well written in the history of football. His shot stopping reflexes, concentration and has shown great skill in stopping close range shots over the past years. With impressive 14 clean sheets attached to his records last season De Gea the man, you can go for without having any second thoughts.
Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea) - £5.5m
The golden glove winner of last season with 16 clean sheets. The Belgian international has never failed to impress us. The Chelsea keeper has a mixed fixture who will be facing Spurs and Arsenal on gameweek 2 and 5 respectively. But Conte's defense is still one of the finest. The presence of Azpilicueta, N'Golo Kante, David Luiz, and Gary Cahill is always hard to get through for any team. The addition of Antonio Rüdiger and Tiemoué Bakayoko has made them even stronger. Excellent reflexes shot stopping ability also makes him an applaudable keeper. So picking him up won't be that bad of a choice.
Defender
Marcos Alonso (Chelsea) - £7m
When the word premium defender appears, the name that pops up first is Marcos Alonso who plays more attacking in Antonio Conte’s 3 man system allowing him to play more in the midfield area. The Spaniard has by far one of the best goal scoring ability in the premier league. Played 30 matches last season and yet was able to find the net 6 times and assist 3 times is really commendable. His tall stature, positioning, man marking, making successful interceptions and running across the wing makes him a potent bps magnet. On the plus side, we all have witnessed the sheer strength of Chelsea’s defense. Although priced at a hefty state, Marcos Alonso is still worth considering. We would rather pick over any team balancing midfielder any day.
Kieren Trippier (Tottenham Hotspurs) - £5.5m
The cheap entry point into a solid defense and he was racking up assists when Walker was out last season. Trippier's crossing is the most dangerous from fullback in the league with Kane and Alli being a tall poacher roaming in the box. The scenario might change if Spurs go after Ricardo Perreira but right now Trippier is a steal.
James Milner (Liverpool) - £6.5m
Definitely an expensive defender but provided Liverpool don’t sign a replacement left-back this summer, Milner will start majority games and he is also their main set piece taker and main penalty taker so the potential of returning healthy points. Milner scored 7 goals from left-back, while Liverpool kept 12 clean sheets last season. While writing this script Liverpool has already signed Robertson from Hull City. So that is something we need to see how if Klopp allows Milner to play more up front.
César Azpilicueta (Chelsea) - £6.5m
The Chelsea center back was the last season hit. The signing of Antonio Rudiger has put Gary Cahill's future on the line. But César Azpilicueta's place in the 1st team is always certain. Scoring a total of 170 points the center back can be the punch you need to move to the top. He also tends to move up the pitch which led him to score a goal and make 5 crucial assists. His ability to hold on to the ball and accurate passing surely deserves to be applauded. He also has 16 whopping clean sheets to his name which has convinced us that Chelsea defense is something you can put your money on. Except for Spurs, Chelsea has a fairly decent fixture for the upcoming 5 game weeks. So if you can't get Alonso, then better pick César Azpilicueta.
Vincent Kompany (Manchester City) - £6m
The Manchester City was on the bench most part of last season due to injury. He only made 10 successful appearances last season. But that has not stopped Kompany from impressing us. He was there where he was needed the most in all the games he appeared. Finding the net thrice in 10 appearances is praiseworthy. Excellent heading ability, passing and tackling are the strong suits that lament Kompany to be a class apart.
Eric Bailly (Manchester United) - £6m
We all know Mourinho's habit of shuffling the squad every now and then. So picking a nailed player from Manchester United can be quite the work and can also be frustrating. But fear, not Eric Baily is a sure starter this season. With Rojo out for the rest of the year, barely was able to solidify his place even more. Ball interception and tackling are his strengths but his ability to hold on to the ball can be his weakness at times. Eric Baily is a good option when considering the opening fixtures Manchester United will be going through. They will be facing the likeness of West Ham, Swansea, Leicester, Stoke and Everton respectively.
